Show RAILROAD STRIKE IS NEAR AT HAND. Worse than the prospect of war as a disturbing influence on American life is the threat of a railroad strike, the first real symptom of which is the ordering of embargoes on freight by the big railroad companies, the orders to go into effect at midnight tonight. It is dreadful to contemplate the far-reachinc far-reachinc possibilities of this shutting down of the arteries of trade. The country's business may be so severely disturbed as to bring on a nation-wide calamity. President Wilson would, be justified in going to extreme lengths to prevent pre-vent this approaching disaster. |
