Show Seen and Heard 'Round the Town By E. K. S. Rodeo thoughts . . . Most of us guys don't improve on nature when we monkey around with facial shrubbery and bedeck ourselves our-selves in Rodeo paraphernalia . . . Bet the Lions would be willing to give Mayor Watson a cut in the gate if he would guarantee to put on his horsemanship act each night ... at that, Mayor D. C. ; is a good enough sport that he might be willing to cooperate that is in spirit perhaps the body is too old to stand the gaff . . . Dick really got down to earth when he bedecked his waitresses in Levis and loud shirts, but it is a safe bet theft the girls would take last year's costumes in preference pref-erence to these . . . wonder what Mike and the boys are going go-ing ask us to lay on the line when they hail us into Kangaroo court? There were several water users who had comments to make on the water rates following our comments last week. One of them took time out to express himself in no uncertain terms. You will find his letter under "Voice of the People". Anyone else having hav-ing thoughts on this subject kindly kind-ly send them in and we will pass them along. Of course, we realize there are two sides to the question ques-tion and will welcome a discussion discus-sion from both sides. Post Office Service A number of people have expressed ex-pressed their appreciation for the new service that St. George is getting at the post office. Others besides business people find it convenient to be able to receive and mail parcels on Saturday afternoon. af-ternoon. ' Most of those contacted regarding re-garding the possibility of securing mail delivery service throughout the town are very enthusiastic over the proposition. It is to be hoped that the Chamber of Commerce Com-merce or some other organization will follow through on this matter. Dixie's Fall Climate Dixieites are now looking forward for-ward to the finest time of the year in Dixie. Some places have fine springs.and summers, but you will go a long ways to find a tall climate to equal Dixie's. Beautiful sunshine day after day with a snap coming in the air in the latter part of October and November No-vember that fills one with pep and vitality. Throw in the hunting hunt-ing season and most men wouldn't trade their lives here in the fall for anywhere else on earth. We had a talk with a Murray businessman about the power situation sit-uation in his town. He was very enthusiastic over their set-up. He stated that they got off to a slow start, but after they got a good man in charkeof the department things began to work. In his opinion municipal power has proved very satisfactory in his community. Election Coming Up Perhaps with the raise in salaries sal-aries that the City Council has passed, to go into effect January 1, there will be more interest taken in these offices. In the past the parties have had to draft their men to get them to run. Guess we will have to get out and contact the boys "in the know" and see if we can get any news on this subject to pass along. Pine Valley and Enterprise report re-port killing frosts of 24 above on Monday night. At Pine Valley all of the garden vegetables are said to have been killed by the frost which is the earliest known there for years. These colder nights in the higher altitudes around St. George mean that many people will be returning here for the winter. Couple that with school getting underway and you have the reason why the city has an increase of around 500 in its population in the winter. Good Cooking The boys returning from Camp San Luis Obispo report that they have the best cooks in camp. Keith McArthur is rated as "tops" for his pies, while Gaston (Smitty) Smith rates first place for his general all-around ability. The boys say it is hard for them to get used to seeing all the girls smoking and that the Utah lassies looked mighty good to them after the others. Some of the boys started home via the hitch-hiking route, but found that it was too slow for their spirits. Nord Brockbank and Dell Black started that way and were picked up by a movie actor that lived across the street from one of the famous Hollywood Holly-wood actors. He insisted on their staying over night with him with the result that they declare they witnessed one of those wild parites for which Hollywood is supposed to be famous. |
