Show Mrs. Leo A. Snow left Monday for Los Angeles where she will visit for several flays with her daughter, Mrs. Nellie Millet. Dr. Fae Terry Ahlstrom of Los Angeles was in St. George over the week-end visiting Dr. Ahlstrom, Ahl-strom, returning Sunday with Dr. and Mrs. Wendell Robinson and son, of Hornet, Calif. Howard Ahlstrom Ahl-strom returned with them to enter the U. S. C. School of Dentistry. Mrs. Keith Ross was hostess to the weekly Bridge session of the Bridge Ettes on Wednesday afternoon after-noon at her home. Prizes were won by Mrs. Robert Pickett and Mrs. Karl Hutchings. Nelson, manager man-ager of Snow's Dress shop, is on a store-buying trip to Los Angeles this week. She accompanied her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey Standberg and daughter, daugh-ter, Elaine, of Hurricane. They are expected to return on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Laron S. Andrus entertained at a family dinner Tuesday evening in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Antone Nisson who left this (Thursday) morning for Los Angeles where Mr. Nisson will enter en-ter the U. S. C. Dental college. Mrs. LeGrande Spilsbury of Cedar City is at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Seegmiller, with her new baby for a few days. Mrs. Charles Pickett and small daughter, Sharlene, left Wednesday Wednes-day morning for their home in Salt Lake City after an extended visit Tiere. & Miss Jane Pace was hostess to a number of friends at her home last Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Jos. J. Milne left Monday for Salt Lake City to spend several days on business. The Easy Aces were guests Wednesday evening of Mrs. Lorraine Lor-raine Cox at her home, high score honors going to Mrs. James Andrus An-drus and Mrs. Reid Mathis, and consolation to Mrs. Willard Bleak. Discharges from the hospital over the week include Mrs. Tony Lytle and baby boy of Veyo; Mrs. Virgil Y. Jessup and baby girl of Glendale, Utah; and Mrs. Clair Stirling and baby girl of St. George. Lyle Sstringham, five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl String-ham String-ham underwent surgery at the local lo-cal hospital Sept. 5; Dean Ballard, small son of Mr. and Mrs. Waldon Ballard of Rockville, received medical med-ical care Sept. 6 to 9, and Gerald Ger-ald Leavitt, was a medical patient pa-tient Sept. 6 and 7. Mrs. M. E. Lyle and Mrs. M. R. Dykeman arrived from Ogden this morning (Thursday) to spend several sev-eral days with their niece, Mrs. Val McArthur, and family. It has been several years since Mrs. Lyle and Mrs. Dykeman visited St. George which is their home town. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Larkin and four small children left Sunday Sun-day for Salt Lake City and Willard Wil-lard where Mrs. Larkin and the children will visit for two weeks. Mr Larkin plans to return sooner. , u The Hostess Sewing Circle held their last week's session at the home of Emily Batson, with Mrs Ward Dorrity and Mrs. Wendell Holmes as guests. The hostess gift was a dress length of silk and wool crepe. Refreshments were SerV6d" Alva Snow returned last Friday from serving 26 months as an L D S missionary to the eastern states, spending the entire time in various parts of New York state A full report of his mission will appear in next week's News. Charles Pickett left Sunday evening eve-ning for Salt Lake City to resume him law studies. Mrs Pickett and their daughter will follow in a few days. Mr. and Mrs. George M. Bate-man Bate-man and family returned to their home in Tempe, Ariz., last week after visiting with relatives in St. George. Mrs. Orson N. Layton of K&ys-ville, K&ys-ville, and son, Lloyd J. Brink, passed through St. George last week enroute to Main Street, Ariz., to get possessions, which Mrs. Layton left there last spring. She has accepted employment as first grade teacher in Kaysville for the current year. Lloyd, football foot-ball star of the B.Y.U., was to have coached at Delta high, but was recently drawn into the Defense De-fense program and will leave from training camp Sept. 11. Dean Snow motored to Kanab Sunday to visit friends. Mr. and Mrs. Jos. J. Milne left Monday for Salt Lake City on business. H Mr. and Mrs. Mack Jackson motored down from Scipio Saturday Satur-day bringing with them Mrs. Jackson's sisters, the Misses Wilma and Noma Andrus. Wilma returned re-turned to Salt Lake City Monday evening to resume her studies at the L. D. S. Business college. The entire Charles Andrus family were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Thompson. 3fc Mr. and Mrs. Dilworth Beck-strom Beck-strom and children motored in from Panguitch Friday to attend the Saturday funeral services of Mr. Beckstrom's mother, Emma Marian Bracken Beckstrom. They returned Sunday. Paul Beckstrom, another son of the deceased, and Hamblin Bracken, a nephew, came from the San Francisco and San Luis Ohispo defense training camps, respectively. Mrs. Wilford Whipple of Logan-dale, Logan-dale, who with her two small daughters have been guests the past week of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George T. Thompson, will leave Wednesday for Salt Lake City on business over the weekend week-end before returning to their Nevada home. Miss Jessie Larson left last Thursday evening for a month's employment in Grand Canyon before be-fore returning to enter the Dixie junior college. Miss Gwenn Stewart, Miss Dawn Beckstrand and the Misses Joy and Floy Bennett, twin sisters of Dixie's football star, "Zug" Bennett, Ben-nett, arrived from Meadow Sunday Sun-day to enroll in the Dixie junior college. Mrs. Hyrum Thomas entertained entertain-ed at eight tables of Bridge in the open-air living room at the rear of their home last Thursday Thurs-day evening. Honors went to Anne Pace, Jetta Snow and Mary Phoenix. Mrs. Walter F. Smith, daughters, daugh-ters, Evelyn and Beulah, and Marion Mar-ion Graff spent the week-end in Provo. Miss Cleah Greaves, cousin of Evelyn and Beulah, of Salt Lake City returned with them for a week's visit. Mrs. Earl Nelson of Rexburg, Ida., the former Maida Worthen, is here to be with her father, George W. Worthen, who is very ill. Blake Empey returned to Reno, Saturday afternoon after spending a week here visiting with relatives rela-tives and friends. Frank Turley and Clair Riding motored up from Burbank, Calif., last Friday to get Mrs. Turley and daughter, Diana, and their mother, Mrs. Ella Riding Dansby, who have been guests the past two weeks of Mrs. Dansby's sister, sis-ter, Mrs. Joseph L. Empey. On Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Turley, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hutchings and Clair Riding visited Bryce and Zion National Park. The group of visitors returned home to Bur-bank, Bur-bank, Monday. Roxey S. Romney arrived Saturday Sat-urday evening from spending three week visiting with her children, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Davis and Mr. and Mrs. Cummings Gardner, in California. |
