Show Our economy may be given a boost, and many people may find tax time a little less trying, if some members of Congress have their way. These concerned Congressmen Con-gressmen are trying to repeal re-peal a recent tax law. The law would require ten percent per-cent of all taxable interest and dividend payments withheld at the source. That means, your bank, S & L, and the like, would give the government ten percent of the interest it pays you before it pays you your interest. In many cases, you'd be making an interest-free loan to the government. Experts at the United States League of Savings Institutions point out that this will discourage savers, since the yield on investments invest-ments will be reduced and that it will not bring in nearly as much revenue as the Treasury claims it will. Most of the tax would be paid anyway, and it will add to the cost of financial services. |
