THE HIGH COST OF CARELESSNESS In the spring when people are burning grass in ditches and along roads, there is danger of power poles catching on fire. The least that happens in this circumstance cir-cumstance is that a pole has to be replaced. replac-ed. A much worse result may be that the line would fault out and many people would be without electricity. This certainly cer-tainly would cause an inconvenience for our consumers, but it could also be a most serious matter for anyone totally dependent on a continous supply of electricity. There is also the possibility that a line could fall causing injury or death to people peo-ple or livestock. Even without an outage, replacing a pole is expensive. Considering the cost, danger, and inconvenience in-convenience involved, it is important that care be taken when burning the ditches. In the event a pole does catch fire but it is still safe to get near it, put w ater or dirt on the fire. However, if the pole is burning rapidly, stay clear of the pole and electric line. Call your cooperative and report the incident. |
