Show Bond issues Dear Editor: As a concerned citizen I would like to pose the following questions in regards to the school bond issue. 1. The 17 million dollar bond is a missnomer the final amount we pay will be better than 40 million so are the school boards other projections just as cockeyed? 2. Do you know that the interest alone on this bond could build a new school every year like the Discovery Elementary Elemen-tary School? 3. Wouldn't it be cheaper to add to the present high school rather than build a whole new high school? 4. The junior high was designed for junior high students and the Uintah High School was designed for high school students to use them for other ages represents wasted facilities doesn't it? 5. Do projections of increased enrollments take into account that such companies as Dowell, Halliburton, Western and others are operating on skeleton crews compared with last fall and every day people are moving from the valley? 6. What's wrong with larger classes to take up the slack for the University of Utah has classes up to 600 with no harmful harm-ful effects? 7. Do the proponents for the bond issue think our taxpayers are a "horn of plenty?" plen-ty?" With additions of a rest home, new jail plus the "rip offs" from our public officials can the people stand this added expense? Is all available space being used? What about the space in the high school storing toys and rooms not in use? 10. Why don't we have a projection on the costs in furnishing the new school for its furnishings, desks, etc. plus extra teachers? 11. Do you think that the proposed site for the new school meets satisfactory standards? Is it centerly located? Does the topography meet good standards? Is it ideally located? These are questions that deserve an answer. Yours truly, WENDELL K. NASH (Member of Citizen for Responsible Govt.) |
