With the ft 0rld oil g'ut and unstable svw'manLlarSe ou companies have w cut back their exploration, con- struction, and drilling. This leaves oil service companies to bear the brunt of the residual effect. Things are not all pessimistic, according accor-ding to Hunting. With improved weather, construction will pick up at the White River Shale Oil Project and the Bonanza Bonan-za Power Plant will also increase construction. con-struction. The tourist industry will pick up soon, putting some unemployed back to work, and the new K-Mart store will begin hiring this summer. Even with the several things which make the job market look less bleak, Hunting does not expect things to be as good as they were a year ago. Last year at this time the oil industry was going strong, and the influx of people was still strong. This caused construction to be good due to increased demand for homes, condominiums and apartments. That situation just doesn't exist this year. Hunting said for the first time in years people are beginning to run out of benefits. There have not been many people peo-ple in this position yet, but more will begin to lose benefits if they don't locate work soon. There are jobs available, but attitudes are starting to change, according to Hunting. Hun-ting. Last year at this time, there were approximately eight job applicants for every job listing at Job Service. Now there are more like 18 or 19 applicants for every job opening. With competition for jobs much keener, people tend to stay with the job they have longer than they once may have. Hunting said even dishwashing and waitressing jobs are less available than usual. r ? . -' fc3cz- - nf- w v' V- , I W S.vCv " - vw-- - . .- ---- M - - -..-cw..- - .
