Show Kern Defeated for Senate. Indianapolis, Ind. The Democratic caucus of Ihe Indiana legislature, after twenty ballots, chose former Congressman Benjamin F. Shlvley of South Bend for Cniled Slates senator. The last ballot stood as follows: Shlvley, Shlv-ley, 42; Kern. 35; Limb, 4; Menzles. 1; Charles Mlers. 1. Mr. Shlvley was escorted Into the hall, made ia brief speech and was loudly applauded. John W. Kern, Democratic candidate , for vice president, had a good lead on the first ballot, but was unable to muster enough strength lo win. |
