Show COLORADO 11 MAKE IMPORTANT TEST CASE Question of the Legal Rights of the Government's Forest Policy Will Be Fought to a Finish. Denver, Colo. For the purpose of testing in the courts the right of the national government to establish forest for-est reserves within the boundaries of sovereign states, the state of Colorado Colo-rado will be asked to appropriate the sum of $10,000 to meet the expense ex-pense of such a proceeding. This is the substance of a bill introduced in the senate on Friday. The bill authorizes the attorney-general attorney-general to proceed immediately upon the adoption of the measure and to prepare and appear in cases where, the operations of the forestry' department depart-ment of the national government appear ap-pear to have encroached upon the rights of the state. It is hinted in the bill that possibly pos-sibly the operation of the forestry system may have retarded the development de-velopment of the state's agricultural, mining and power advantages, and is preventing the construction and op eration of irrigation systems that would be of inestimable value to the upbuilding of the state. The bill has a provision authorizing authoriz-ing the attorney-general to employ special counsel to assist in legal actions ac-tions that may arise as an outcome of the proposed fight. |
