Show I PUBLIC SCHOOL t DEPARTMENT. J Ate we as a community doing all that should be done lor the edocat iug of our children ; providing them with best advantages to be obtained? We as teachers feel that all children who are always punctual are doing excellent work this winter, taking into in-to consideration the crowded condition condi-tion we labor under every day. There is a saying that children partake par-take of actions done by older people and therefore get the primary basis for feeling as others feel, thinking as others think, acting as others act. Many adult social activities, however, are so complex that the child cannot perform them, and there is, and must be, reversion to simpler activities and processes. Often the teacher wonders how it is that children hate to atteud school. Some say it is because they have a I dislike for their teacher. Could not I one cause be that parents are so backward back-ward iu coming at least once a year to school making the child feel that your interest is there, aud you are going to see personally how they are working aud conducting themselves. I wonder how many men iu this world would let their farms and busi ness places to an individual, putting full coutidence in their dealings and never call around to see the workings of him iu charge. Do you think jou could afford to let your busines-s fall by placing oue man iu charge, where three would have, sufficient to do and make it pay best? 1 wouid then say why should not our schools be the very best to be found ; making thetii our center of interest in-terest until that eud is accomplished which will give each child a fair chauce to gain more iu the length of lime school is iu sessiou.
