Show EAST TEMPLE STBEET PAVEMENT It is pretty generally understood that East Temple street will be paved this summer sum-mer between South Temple and Third South A majority of the propertyowners want the improvement in fact all want it thong some complain that times are bard I rents low and money scare Nobody remembers i re-members a time when such an objection I ws not raised by somebody In this instance in-stance it is said that fully threefourths of tho frontage will favor paving tby present year the propertyowners realizing that in order to maintain ita prestige as tho principal prin-cipal business street of the city the improvement im-provement must bo made at once The I State street pavement is the thing that has Sfifr thft RnQt TV mnln c nf Innil nwTnnyfl tA W LU g 4W u thinking 1 Having determined to pave the question of material is to be decided and this is going go-ing to cause trouble if not delay Some want asphalt others granite blocks others again the hard sandstone which Is so plentiful plen-tiful hereabouts and we hear of thoso who favor vitrified brick As to the last mentioned men-tioned we think it should be dropped from the list Brickmakors tell us that whereas it is possible there are bricks in the east which will answer for pavement they cannot be made hero We hope nobody will propose that bricks be Imported whon granite and sandstone enough to pave all the cities in America are within an hours J run rom salt Lalta In other cities when they want pavement pave-ment that will bo lasting and when they can afford it they put down granite They try other materials but finally settle down to granite as being the safest tho most lasting last-ing and the beat as it is conceded to be the cheapest in the long run Would it not be wise and well for the East Temple street propertyowners to forego the discussion of the merits of other materials and at onco adopt granite and thus for a generation genera-tion at least settle the matter of B good pavement That is tho main street of tho city The traffic concentrates there and is I likely to do so for some years and the pavement should bo such as to endure the wear and not constantly require repairs True It is expensive but we believe it will cost less in ten years than any other pavement pave-ment mentWhen When the improvement shall be made let It be permanent and such as will be creditable to the principal street of the olty |
