Show CRIMINAL MATTERS J C Williams and Mrs Martins I Again Arrested for Adultery The Third Charge Against Them Both Released Re-leased on Their Own Recognizance Petty Thief CinchedPolIce Notes Another indiscretion on the part of John C Williams and Edith Martins resulted in tneir arrest at an early hour yesterday morning on a third charge of adultery It seems that on Thursday night the parties went to the theatre together and unfortunately for them a brother of Mrs Williams was in the audience and saw the pair there together After the performance perform-ance he followed them to an apartment house on State street and saw them disappear dis-appear up the stairs The upshot was that a third complaint charging them with adultery was sworn to before Commissioner Commis-sioner reenman and Deputy Marshal Will Goodjell sallied forth to arrest them It was nearly 4 oclock in tho morning when tho officer located Mrs Martins room and in response to a vigorous thump ing on the door that party came Mr Goodseii at once entered fully expecting ex-pecting to find Mr Williams there but In this he was disappointed There was a bed in the room and Mrs Martins had evidently just arisen from it butWilliams was nowhere about The officer decided to Investigate further and succeeding in gaining admission to an adjoining room which communicated with the one occupied by Mrs Fapp and found Williams there Both parties were taken to the marshals office and later in the day both were arraigned ar-raigned before Commissioner Greenman and waived examination They were held to await the action of the grand jury and Wllliamu bond was placed at 52000 while Mrs Martins bond was fixed at 5500 United States Attorney Varian consented that both parties might be released on their own recognizance as they were already under heavy bonds and the defendants left Mrs Martin is a young woman of very attractive appearance and it is said that she comes of an excellent family in the east She is highly educated having received re-ceived her training in a convent scnool and her appearance ana demeanor indicate that she has been accustomed to the upper walks in life Mr Williams is widely known in this community and previous to this scandal had D legion of friends It is understood that Mrs Williams will bring an action for a divorce and it Is intimated that the domestic do-mestic life of the couple was not as happy as it might have been even before this cloud appeared upon it Mr Williams friends think that this third arrest savors more of persecution than prosecution and it has rather weakened the feeling against him |
