Show BLACK HAWK VETERAN IS LAID TO REST "Well attended funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Third ward chapel for Carlos Hutching-s, S4, Black Hawk Indian war veteran and a well known church worker of this city, who died Sunday at the family residence. resi-dence. Mr. Hatchings was born in Salt Lake City, January 29. 1S52. He came to Springville as a young-man young-man and lived here until 1SS7 when lie moved to Elsinore. He, took a prominent part in civic affairs af-fairs of thai vicinty. At Brooklyn. , a small community near Elsinore. he contributed the land, financed the building of a school house and paid for the first teacher in the school. The building was later used for a church. He va.s a blacksmith black-smith and farmer. In 1907, the family returned to Springville and Mr. Hutchings has lived here since. During his latter years he has done considerable work in the Salt Lake temple. He was a high priest at the time of his death. He married Pricella Jane Barney on January 30, 1S75 at Spanish Fork. She died in March 1923. Surviving are 13 sons and daughters, daugh-ters, Mrs. Edna Boyer, Mrs. Vanda Beck, Silas, LaVar and Elmer Hutchings of Springville; Milan Hutchings, Mrs. Zella Jensen, Mrs. Sylvia Moll, Salt Lake City; Vir-gus Vir-gus Hutchings, Spanish Fork; Mar-cellus Mar-cellus Hutchings, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Dora Jolley, Mrs. Arvelda Brickey, Jess Hutchings, Provo; 58 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren, eight brothers and ; sisters, Stephen Hutchings, Salmon, Sal-mon, Idaho; Silas, Chester, Truman, Tru-man, and Westley Hutchings, Springville; Mrs. Naomi Keile, Mrs. Minerva Avery, Blackfoot, Iraho; Mrs. Myra Stewart, Salt Lake City. |
