Show (J 'few Wolds 'ficm Ijoui Tlew Shitoi .... CLIFF MEMMOTT ? lrtheday I first made up my mind to enter the ner field in Duchesne county I have pondered over ; neWSEnw I should make my initial salutation to you good r 'ust i who have so thoroughly supported those who have hed the Uintah Basin Record at Duchesne and the p Hard at Roosevelt over the years. I am convinced of S thine for sure I want to maintain the fine news-ne news-ne ; principals and ideals that have been practiced in paPhPsne county and, if possible, make a few improve-j improve-j Sen's We and there that might add interest to your : Kwspaper3ther natural thing for patrons of any business rem to expect a new owner to make changes. Oft-times, h rhanges are radical and do not always secure the best lts For me to say I don't expect to make any changes u d be out of order but to make an announcement "at I intend to revolutionize the whole paper and change v many policies and practices, would be quite foolish, in oDinion I realize that as your newspaper editor and i ublisher I am going on trial, and you good people are to : E, my judge and jury. ! Please try to understand this one thing I come into I a communities a humble man who wants to gain your incidence ancj friendship. I don't profess to know all the answers as a weekly newspaper editor-publisher. I have had hirteen years experience as such, all in the same community commun-ity and at the end of those years have come to the def-rite def-rite realization that I have plenty to learn. With your help cooperation and patience, Duchesne county's two newspapers news-papers can continue to be the best possible. Already I have had the privilege of meeting and talk-m talk-m with many of you and am thrilled at the wholesome meeting I have received. You who make up the population of this part of the great Uintah Basin have a wide reputation repu-tation as a friendly and generous people. For several weeks I tried to find someone who knew of you but does not live here who would discourage me on coming to the Basin. That person has not been located. Quite the contrary all 1 could find was praise for all of you, which was a very ratifying experience. Before going into the reasons why I have purchased . i the Record at Duchesne and the Standard at Roosevelt, I'd I lie to review briefly a few immediate ideas I would like to r.ject into your papers: First I want to give you my personal thoughts in an Editor's Column each week. At the moment I have not decided what to call it but it will appear each ? week on Page One of the Standard' and Record. Second I would like to go back through the files of both papers (five, ten and twenty years) and give , you a weekly column to be known as "BACKWARD i TLANCES," or some equally appropriate caption. Third I have hopes of giving you a column in I which we would recztie . the pioneSrs of -Duchesne 1 1 Wore they are called by The Master to an eternal Jiome. This might be called "WITH OUR PIONEERS." Fourth As it becomes possible I'd like to carry photos and stories about the men and women who operate op-erate the places of business in the communities served by your papers. This feature could be called "YOUR HOMETOWN MERCHANT." Fifth A special page will, in the near future, be I devoted to "THE WOMAN'S WORLD." Some plans are ! in the offing to make this a reality in the near future, i There now, I have stuck out my neck like an ostrich, Ed in so doing am definitely on the spot. My face will be iii if I fail to make these additions as soon as my staff and 1 can give them to you. It will take time, so please bear I ,;tn us who join together each week to give you your Kwspapers. , Now then I would like to give you the main reasons ,riy I am moving my family to Duchesne county to become iur neighbor, friend and editor.
