Mrs. Selena Garber and Mrs. Barbara Ekker, Hanks-ville's Hanks-ville's representatives on the Green River Medical Center board, attended a regular meeting Feb. 22 in Green River. Others in attendance were nurse practitioner Sue Allen, Craig Morley, Jim Ban-asky, Ban-asky, Howard Silliman, Judy Ann Scott and the clinic secretary, Jean. Mr. Morley explained the financial situation of the clinic for January which showed that the clinic has seen 319 patients in 20 days with a total revenue of $3,435.50. They are applying for a grant from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation to set up a new x-ray machine which is estimated to cost (4,000. Plans are being drawn up to re-do the present x-ray room at the clinic with lead plywood and this cost will be approximately approx-imately $1,000. The matter of fire insurance for the clinic was brought up and it was to be presented to the city of Green River for payment. It was suggested that Dr. Hooker or Dr. Peters would make a weekly visit to Hanksville Hanks-ville to see patients. It was learned that Merk Jarvis, manager of the Poor Boy Motel in Hanksville had offered a unit free for this service. Mr. Morley also filled the board in on details regarding regard-ing another federal grant that might become available. A representative for this funding fund-ing would meet with Sue Allen, inspect the present clinic and its functions before it would be final. Jim Banaksy asked Mr. Morley about grants for funding to get outside work done at the clinic in the way of asphalt which would solve some of the sinking problems created by the moisture. The situation regarding medicine delivery to the Hanksville patients following a clinic visit in Green River has become quite a problem. It was suggested that all prescriptions from the clinic be phoned to Walker Drug in Moab before 5 p.m. each day so they can be mailed and received by Hanksville patients pa-tients the next day. At present, pre-sent, medicine is sent from the Price Drug to Green River and then sent to Hanksville (via Provo postal offices) arriving three days later, after the patient is either recovered or in worse condition. con-dition. It was also brought to the attention of those present that the Wayne County Health Nurse hasn't made regular visits to the community commun-ity or the school and the ( teachers are concerned about eye and hearing tests as well as immunizations that should have been completed before now. Sue Allen stated that many Hanksville mothers had brought their small ones to the clinic for well-baby clinics. There has also been a problem with getting blood samples mailed out of Green River the same day they are taken and into the labs at Provo for work-ups. Banasky stated that he would check with the postmaster to see if this can't be corrected. Hanksville wants to thank Sue Allen for all the help she's given as well as supplies for the Hanksville EMTs and ambulance as well as calls for advice and service.
