Show Local Diabetes Assn. elects new officers i vi The Moab Unit of the ri American Diabetes Assn. ' recently elected officers I for the coming year. Mr ic, Byron Eastin was elected Chairman, Mrs. Sue e Graves, Chairman-elect J and Mr. Fred Markle ; secretary-Treasurer. All 2. members of the unit are jft urged to support these , ; officers in any way pos- sible through the year. The American Diabetes Association is a very li,. worthwhile organization to be affiliated with. There J is much to be gained through participation at ,, the local meetings and other projects undertaken. pa: There is a lot of research - being conducted and ; & many new ideas are being m- brought out. The group tries to keep abreast of : these. pi Several times each year ig , there are special guest L$i speakers from the Affiled: Affil-ed: iate office in Salt Lake City, several of whom are ng staff members of the idi University of Utah Medi-im Medi-im cal Center, all specialists in Diabetes. They donate their time and talents to come and present programs pro-grams and workshops. At other meetings local persons give programs. Mrs. Norma Lance, Dietician Diet-ician of the San Juan Hospital in Monticello presented a very interesting inter-esting program on food and diets at the last meeting. The unit tries to cover all the aspects of diabetes and hopes to keep on presenting programs pro-grams of interest to all. Education is one of the most important tools there is in learning to live with diabetes. Some people think that if their diabetes is under control and they aren't having any problems that there is really nothing they can gain by attending the meetings. That may be true, but there are many others who aren't under good control, or who are newly diagnosed and haven't had some of the experiences all diabetics dia-betics face sooner or later or who are having problems prob-lems that perhaps others have encountered. They need the moral support and ideas others can present to help them through the difficult times. Said one member, "So maybe you don't especially es-pecially need us, but we need you... We hope all diabetics and their families, fam-ilies, (it really is helpful to have the support of the families) and any other interested persons, will try to attend the meetings. We meet the 3rd Thursday Thurs-day of each month at 7:30 in the Solarium of Allen Memorial Hospital. We hope to see you there." |
