Show Attention of Children Directed To National Book Week By HELEN STARK Children's Department This year marks the 25th anniversary an-niversary of "Book Week". Children Child-ren throughout the country should think about their good fortune, for American- authors and illustrators, illus-trators, book: designers and publishers; pub-lishers; have made children's books the most beautiful in the world; Because the children of today are the' builders of tomorrow, tomor-row, it is more fitting than ever that you plan to "build the future with books"', which is this year's Book Week slogan. The children's department of our public library offers many attractive new books as well as the books that have passed the test of gcrod; by remaining favorites fav-orites through the years. The most interesting feature of our Book: Week display this year is a book: house, which the children child-ren are shingling with slips of colored paper on which they have written the names of books they have read' since school began this year. We are expecting many interesting inter-esting stories from a title we gave the boys and girls to write about, "If My Favorite Book Character Were In the War, What Would (He or She) Be Doing?" Our real treat will come with the story hour Miss Tillie Winsor is coming in to tell the stories. All the school children know how well she tells the stories, and will be happy to come and hear her at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon. after-noon. We wish to invite the children to enjoy our library the year 'round, and suggest that they bring their parents to visit often. |
