Show NEWS of the COUNTY SEAT Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Adams returned re-turned Saturday evening from a business trip into Kane county, bringing with them Mrs. Hattie Blackburn of Orderville who was their guest until late Sunday. Mrs. Hazel B. Lyman arrived Saturday from Blanding for an indefinite visit with her sister, Mrs. Roy Hawkins and husband, while working in the St. George Temple. Center Ward Day, Dec. 11. Dinner and Bazaar.- Mr. and Mrs. A. Lee Jones and baby, Sharon, returned last week from the Roy Larson sheep ranch, Mrs. Jones and baby to remain for the winter. Mrs. Nelson Empey is here from Boulder City for a week's visit with her mother, Mrs. A. C. Kemp. Mrs. B. Jarvis Jr., left last Friday for Burbank, Calif., where she plans to spend a month with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. Mark Holmes and daughters. Mrs. Orval Hafen and Mrs. E. Eric Snow entertained at a dessert des-sert Bridge last Friday evening at the Hafen home. Tables were set for 32 with prizes for the evening eve-ning going to Mrs. Grant Whitehead, White-head, Mrs. Reed Mathis and Mrs. H. Val Hafen. Buy those Christmas gifts at the Center Ward Bazaar. Miss Evalyn Hawkins, who is attending the B. Y. U., along with working for the Mt. States Tel. and Tel. exchange at that place, spent the week end here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hawkins Haw-kins and her brother, Arlin Hawkins Haw-kins and wife. Arlin will leave soon for military service. Miss Glenna Pickett arrived last Friday morning from Stockton, Calif., where she has had defense work employment the past several months. She plans to remain at home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pickett until the fore part of January. James S. Jones arrived Sunday evening from an extended vacation, vaca-tion, bringing with him his bride of Oct. 29, the former Harriet Larkin of Snowville, Utah. They were married in the Logan Temple and were variously entertained at Snowville during the past two weeks. B. Jarvis was advised by wire Tuesday of the death at birth Monday night of a son to Lieut, and Mrs. J. Mark Holmes, of 711 East 6th street, Burbank, Calif. Mrs. Holmes is his daughter the former Mary Jarvis. Mrs. Eugene Leavitt returned home Monday after two weeks' visit in Venice, Calif., with her children, Mr. and Mrs. Narvel Leavitt and Miss Afton Leavitt. During her visit she helped celebrate cele-brate the birthday of her grandson, grand-son, Gary Leavitt, on Oct. 27th, and that of her daughter, Afton, on Oct. 31st. Leland Brooks and small daughter, daugh-ter, Teena of Orem, spent last Friday and Saturday in St. George visiting at the home. of his mother, Mrs. Flora Brooks and wth his old friend, Christian Tschanz, who is ill. Mrs. Morris Brooks and children child-ren arrived Monday from Provo to spend the week with her parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Miles and visit with her sister, Mrs. Shirl Pitchforth and baby, who are here from California. Mr. and Mrs. Mason Barton came from Burbank, Calif., Saturday Sat-urday to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Barton, and in Santa Clara with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Ray. Let the Center Ward cook your dinner Saturday, Dec. 11. Here last week to attend the Friday afternoon services of their father, J. A. Larson, were his seven children: Clarence and Dean Larson of Blackfoot, Ida.; Dennis Larson and Mrs. Lilly Muir of Pocatello, Ida.; Vernon Larson of Pingree, Ida.; and Mrs. Amelia Mathews of Logan; and a step-daughter, Mrs. W. T. Smith of Salt Lake City. The entire group returned home Saturday, accompanied by Mrs. Larson, and taking their father's body for final services and burial in Logan. The N. E. B. Pinochle club were entertained last Wednesday evening eve-ning by Mrs. Errol Woodbury. Honors went to Mrs. Gerald Blake, Mrs. Ted Beacham and Mrs. Frank Orahood. Mrs. Bill Swapp is here to spend two months with Jner parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Prince, while her husband, who was recently re-cently released as instructor at -the Cedar City flying field, is taking two month's of intensive special training at Randolph Field, Texas, in preparation for a contract con-tract position in one of the government gov-ernment flying schools. Pilot Alma Woodbury, who has been instructor at Cedar City the past several months, left last week for Randolph Field, Texas, where he will receive two month's special training in preparation for a contract school position. Mrs. Wesley A. Nelson, accompanied accom-panied by Mrs. Paul Hafen left Sunday evening for Los Angeles on a purchasing trip for Snow's Dress Shop.- James Ross Jenkins of St. Louis, found injured on the highway high-way two weeks ago, is reported recovering at the hospital from skull fracture and other injuries. Guest the past week of Mr. and Mrs. Lothair Mangum was their sister, Mrs. Ray Johnson of Los Angeles. She returned home Wednesday morning. Mr. Johnson is in military service. Mrs. Ralph T. Carter returned Tuesday evening from Salt Lake City and Ogden, where she has spent the past two weeks visiting her daughters, Miss Barbara Carter and Mrs. Dean Allred. Buy Gifts. Feed the family. Center Ward Day, Dec. 11. Alice Louise Reynolds Chapter 11 held their annual friendship program Friday afternoon, Nov. 12 in the Relief Society rooms of the South ward chapel. Each member brought two guests which provided a group of 82 members and guests for the afternoon. "Hungry Hill," by Daphene Du-Maurier Du-Maurier is listed by the West ward M. I. A. as their offering for the special interests class next Tuesday evening. This story with an Irish setting of a generation of fueds over the mining property prop-erty of Hungry Hill, is said to be a most interesting book. It will be given by Elsie Cox. |
