Show NEW MOTH GOLD Splendid Showing I This Bingham Welth Producer One of the most interesting portions of the Old Reliable cap of Bingham Is that section known as the Dalton Lark country the home of the old Lad mine the Yoscmles the Sampson and the DaltOn and the Lark the Keystone and the Fortune all welknown and prolific producers mines which have added thousands upon thousands to the Imperishable wealth of the world and which in years to come wH still rank as heavy shIppers these properties beIng be-Ing connected with the outside world by the old Lead mill tramway the con necton being made In Bingham canon with the Rio Grande Western road The locality above mentioned has been noted for Its production of silver I lead and copper ores with a sprinkling i of gold but it has not been until the I past few years that the residents of I that camp and also a few enterprising Sal Lakers began to realize the fact i that the Dalton Lrk portion of Vest Mountain district was destined to become be-come still more famous in that I Is the possessor of a camp within a camp a Mercur withIn the environments of a great silver lead gold and copper distrIct dis-trIct and there Is reason to believe that within the next 10 or 12 months Camp Floyd district will not be the only lo calty in the state where the cyanide process of reduction Is extensively and successfully used In the extraction ot gold from lowgrade iron and oxidized ores I A few days ago a representative of The Herald visited the Dalton Lark country and while there took several countrJ I photographic views of the Dalton Lark hoist and mill and the Keystone works He was also given an opportunity of I Inspecting the underground workings of the property or the ew ammoth Gold Mining company which is north of and a short distance up the moun taln sIde from the Dalton Lark mine and mill and while the name of Mammoth Mam-moth might look to some like an infringement in-fringement still the property Is entitled to the name as the Mammoth of Bingham Bing-ham was located and recorded 20 years I ago and several seasons before the Mammoth of Tintc district sprung Into I such prominence as a wealth producer The early owners of the Mammoth did considerable work In the develp meat of this property with the epec taton of dIsclosing deposits of gold in pang quantities and of good shipping values but in this they were disappointed disap-pointed the mineral beIng found In Immense Im-mense bodies but the values were solo so-lo comparatively that the are could not be worked bJ any process known at that time and so the mine renained fJlho guln idle for years and would most likely have been considered as beIng of but little value today had it not been for thc discover and application of the cyanide process Through the kindness of E G Rog non the president of the Mammoth company The Herald reporter was enabled en-abled to inspect this property and to examine tate the condition of its underground under-ground workings The New Mammoth property It is learned consists of a group of six claims three of which are patented whie thc other three are now passing to patent The group is cut from one end to the other by an Immense quartzIte quartz-Ite dyke vein or ledge which Is 150 feet In wIdth the strike of the ledge being northeasterly and southwesterly while its dip is to the north at an angle of about 35 degrees the vein carrying wIth It three separate ore zones all three of which have ben opened up sum cIenty to prove thE fact that the min erai Is a paying product when treated at the mine by the cyanide process One of these pay streaks Is traceable through the mIddle of the quartzite belt while on either side of the ledge where the contacts with the porphyry occurs the veIns of gold bearing ore are strong and well defined On the middle veIn which Is real a true lssure In quartzite an incline shaft has been sunk for a depth of 400 feet following the hanging wall of the deposit while drifts have been run both north and south on the vein at the 100 200 300 and 345foot levels while beloW the 1UOfoot level the hanging wall is as smooth as a floor and Is true to its pitch The real foot wal has not as yet been uncovered but the average width of the vein so far as determined I is from 6 to 15 feet the mineral being 5a Jt l lp I a gray brown and livercolored porous Iron and oxidized quartz free from all I rebellious substances exhaustive tests of which have disclosed values ranging I from 7 to 50 to the ton In the yellow met the general average of 31 samples sam-ples taken from all parts of the mine bEing lGi This for low grade mH lag ore and especially when it Is es tmated that the mineral can be mined and milled at a cost not to exceed 2 to the ton is really a high grade proposition pro-position and The Herald man was more than Impressed with the value and wealth of the property when he was informed In-formed that through the ore body there existed a streak of brown and decomposed decom-posed quartz averaging two and a half feet in wIdth which carries metallic contents of frum 18 to 21 in gold this being no chimerical statement as the I ore was there in sight as tangible evIdence evI-dence of the assertion and the state ment HiS also made by The Heralds Informant that below the 100 level In the workIngs on the middle vein at least 40000 tons of are had already been blocked out ready for extraction and milling the statement being certainly a most conservative one and would be lonservatvc so considered by any mining man after making a careful examination of the property Besides which there are 2000 tons of ore on the dump which has been eperted and found to cary gold values val-ues of from G to 7 In gold to the ton Although the company is continuing work In the incline shaft above described de-scribed the Idea being to continue the blocking out of splendId ore bodies stl the man workings will be located on the northeast side of the mountain where a working tunnel has been started which has been driven into the lull a distance of 150 feet it beIng the intention of the company to cut the ledge on Its dip within 700 feet more at a depth of J50 fee from the surface < 1 ana lU ret uelow tie present Douom of the incline shaft with which connections I con-nections will be made the ore from the mine to be brought out on the tunnel level to the mill which wIll i doubtless be built in due time near Its I I mouth the property having been carefully l fully surveyed as to the strike dip and general tendencies of the formation It being estimated that when the tunnel connection is made the company will have an immense amount and extent of stoping ground from which to takeout take-out ore in sufficient quantities to keep I a mill In operation for many yea to I come At the Dalton Lark regular shipments I ship-ments of good ore are being made while I the mU is turnIng out about 15 tons of concentrates daily The eystone and Fortune under the able superintend ency o Elmer Hill is mantaining Its former record as a heavy shipper of good ore while it was rumored that an important strike of copper had jut been In the mae Congor adjoining the Keystone ground |
