While the boy was seated at a table today, he began spel'lng tho name of a street car line in Cleveland. Detective Ward, who was near the boy, askod him what he meant. "Why, that's the name of the street car which passed the hospital where 'Mr. Jones' kept me," answered the boy. Detective Ward at once communicated communicat-ed the clue to tho police in Cleveland. Private detective were sent here from Sharon and Pittsburg to cover the car line and look for the house described by Willie. It i sbolloved that the house is not far from the corner at which Wllllo was placed on the car by one of tho kidnapers. Monday night. The police have a description or tho house. Willie told the detectives here today that he was often placed In a largo closet under a stnk In the kitchen or the house or hospital, as he calls it. When told of this fact last night, J. T. Whitla exclaimed immediately: "That is the money: The money I gave had the same p'nk tape around the packages with the same imprint on the tape." Firt Story of Capture. Cleveland March 23. In the arrest here tonight of a man and a woman having $9,790 in their possession, the police believe they have captured the kidnapers of Willie Whitla. The woman, wom-an, who was somewhat confused, admitted ad-mitted that she had been responsible for the kidnaping. When placed in custody at the central jollcc station, she said to Captain Shattuck: "I alone planned the whole thing. There will be trouble for me and hell in Sharon tomorrow." Beneath the woman's skiits was' found $,.9S9 Of it $4,000 was bound In packages with the original slips placed in the money when it was taken tak-en from the bank still around it. Captain Shattuck and Detective Frank Wood made the arrests In the east end of the city. . , When they neared the station, the man broke away from Detective Wood and ran toward an alley. The policeman police-man fired two shots from his revolver Into the air and the man stopped. She says she spent fifteen years of her life In a convent In Pennsylvania, but denies that she has ever been in trouble before. Both the man and the woman deny that they know the name of each other. They admit they are not man and wife. According to the police they were intoxicated when placed In custody. Due to their condition, con-dition, they were not questioned closely close-ly by tho police and were locked in separate cells. Both will be arraigned In police court tomorrow on the charge of abduction, ab-duction, according to Detectivo Woods. Attempts were made to communicate with Whitla in Sharon tonight, but he could not be located. The man sayg that he has been a resident of Cleveland Cleve-land for seventeen years.. Willie Whitla told Captain Shattuck on -Monday that the woman who kept him a prisoner had smallpox scars on her face. The woman in custody has red spots on her cheeks and appears to have bad smallpox. She Is a tall blonde, probably 25 years old. She was dressed in a black silk skirt, a gray coat and black hat. They came I down town and bought numerous articles ar-ticles of clothing, giving $5 and $10 bills in payment. Later a report came that the couple had left a package at a downtown store which consisted of discarded clothing. Captain Shattuck and Detective .Woods trailed the woman and. the m&u around the business districts of the city for severnl hours during the afternoon, but delayed taking them into custody. Shortly after nightfall the police learned that the two had gone to the outskirts of the city. j The police watched behind the pair, and Captain Shattuck took the woman by the arm. Detective Wood securing the man. The couple staggered, say the police, as if they were intoxicated-They intoxicated-They made no protest against accompanying accom-panying the officers.
