Show MANSON HAS WORK IN SIGHT HIS DIVISION OF SOUTHERN PACIFIC PA-CIFIC TO BE INCREASED. Will Carry the Superintendent to the Edge of the Mojave Desert In California. Superintendent Manson and his personal per-sonal staff will leave Thursday morning morn-ing for a general Inspection of the Salt Lake division and. before returning, return-ing, will visit Keeler, Cal., over a narrow-gauge district included in his extensive ex-tensive territory. To a reporter, Superintendent Su-perintendent Manson said that work on th cut-off fillings was progressing satisfactorily and that the Immediate district was In 1 excellent condition once more, while general track conditions condi-tions over the entire division were eminently satisfactory. He al&o said construction work on the Mojave extension ex-tension was progressing rapidly and would be completed before November 1, the date set for opening the line. It is generally thought this new district will be made a part of the Salt Lako division and be operated under Superintendent Super-intendent Manson, which will give that official probably, the largest division under the present Harriman system. If this is done, and everything points in that direction at present. It will keep Superintendent Manson pretty pret-ty full- occupied and he will simply drop into his ' Ogden headquarters semi-ocoaslonally to renew acquaintance acquaint-ance with his family and keep In touch with the growth and prosperity of this city aa the most important railroad center between Omaha and San Franciaco. Questioned by a reporter as to the availability of a railroad balloon to aid him in covering the Salt Lake division, di-vision, Mr. Manson ealJ he had thought seriously of that expedient, but for obvious reasons he would prefer inspection inspec-tion work through the observation end of his private car, "Buena Ventura," and allow Resident Engineer Fitzgerald Fitzger-ald and Chief Clerk Reynolds to experiment ex-periment with aerial navigation until un-til he had more confidence in the new air machines. |
