At a meeting in Salt Lake, yesterday of the lead ore producers of Colorado, Nevada, Idaho and Utah, resolutions were passed protesting against a reduction re-duction of the tariff on lead. It was also decided to send a representative to Washington to represent the producers produ-cers during the consideration of the tariff bill. The question whether the organization should be affiliated with the American mining congress or should be kept apart and be known as the Western Ore Producers' association, associa-tion, was left to the executive committee commit-tee for decision. ' Volker Elected President. The city park commissioners held a meeting last evening and reorganized that body by electing J. W. F. Volker. president, to succeed J. S. Lewis, resigned. Another An-other meeting of the board will be held before the end of the week for tho purpose of outlining a policy for the ensuing year. 'Notwithstanding the fact that the appropriations for the improvement and beautifying the parks of the city have been materially cut down by the city council, the board Is determined to make such improvements im-provements In the parks as the mean3 at hand will permit. City Engineer Preparing Plans. City Engineer Parker is now busily engaged preparing plans and specifications specifi-cations for the proposed new reservoir of the city waterworks system. He expects to have his report ready for presentation to the waterworks committee com-mittee within the next few days. The contemplaed plan Is to build a reservoir reser-voir that will increase the capacity of the system something like 20.000,00 gallons. This done and the system will have a capacity of about 28.000.000 gallons, which is calculated to 6upply a population of at least 50,000 people with water for culinary and lawn purposes. pur-poses.
