Show I HELENA NOTES. j The residents of Marysville who attended at-tended the funeral in Helena yesterday returned to the camp on their special train, which left at 4 o'clock. The location and accommodations of the Orphanage are all that could be desired, and the little ones receive the best physical and mental training. Such a worthy enterprise deserves gen--erous support from all quarters. -. -- On Sunday last a collection was taken up in the cathedral for the orphans. Two of the children from the Orphanage, Orphan-age, a little boy. and a little girl, passed the plates. Thi? silent but touching appeal ap-peal called forth generous donations. On Thursday, Dec. 17. the talent of the East Helena Catholic, church gave an entertainment, in which they were aided by Helena (main) performers.; The affair was a decided success, both socially and financially. The neat sum of $109 was netted, clear of all expenses. Father O'Brien hasvdeparted on a recuperating re-cuperating tourito California. He will return about Jan. 1. The reverend gentleman gen-tleman paid All Hallows! College ia visit in passing through Salt Lake City. His acquaintances among the Montana contingent at the College were very pleased to see him About two years ago, Mr. John Curtis of Butte presented the Sisters of Charity Char-ity in charge of the Orphans' Home, Helena, with a very desirable city lot: During the past year a heating plant costing about $1,600 was put in the Orphanage. Or-phanage. -and in order to help defray this heavy expense it was determined to dispose of this lot, as it was of noi financial benefit to the institution. The A. O.'H. of Butte-have charge of the matter. Tickets at $1 each are out for the drawing, which will take place Christmas. Some fortunate will make a paying investment as well as help a most deserving cause. The various Catholic societies of Butte are making up purses to add to the sum realized on the property. The Sisters at Helena have 147 orphans or-phans in charge, the bulk of whom are from Silver Bow county. For only about forty of this "number are regular fees being paid. The care and rearing of the majority is gratuitous effort on the part of the Sisters. |
