Show A CHRISTMAS CAROL. I. The moon that now is shining in skies so blue and bright. Shone aKt-s since on shepherd. Who watched their tlocks by night: Thore was no sound upon the earth. The uzure air was still, Th- sheep in quit-t clusters lay L'pon the grassy hill. II. When lo! a white-winged angel ; The watchers stood be-fore. Awl told how Christ was born on earth, Ftr mortals to adore; Ht bade tht- trembling shepherds Listen, nor bo afraid. And toil 1 how in a manger Tho glorious Child was laid. in. When suddenly in the heavena Appeared an angel hau l And while in reverent wonder Tho Syrian shepherds stand ! And all the bright host chanted Word that shall never cease: "Glory to God in the highest. On earth, good will and peace." IV. The vision in the heavens Faded, and all was still. And the wondering- shenherds left their flocks To feed upon thf hill; Towards the blessed ctty Quickly their course they held. And in a lowly sluhie. Virgin and Child beheld. V. Beside a humble manger. Was the Maiden-Mother mild. And in her arms her Son divine, A new-born infant smiled: No shade of future sorrow From Calvary then was cast; Only the glory was revoalod. The suffering was not past. VI. The Eastern kings before him knelt And rarest offerings brought: The shepherds worshiped and adored The wonders God had wrought; They .saw the crown for Israel's King, The future's glorious part But all these things the Mother kept. And pondered ir her heart. VII. Now we that Maiden-Mother, The Queen uf Ik-avrn call: And the Child we call our Jesus. Savior, an 1 Judge of ail-But ail-But the star that shone in Bethlehem Shines still, and shall not cease; And we listen still to the tidings Of glory and of peace. |
