Show Apostle Lyman is the latest distinguished ecclesiastic ec-clesiastic to throw his energies into commercialism. commer-cialism. He is the chief promoter of what Is known as the Shoshone Power company, a prospectus pros-pectus of which has recently been issued and which purposes the harnessing of the waters of the falls and the distribution of electrical power to various Idaho towns and to Salt Lake City in particular. Four other apostles, John Henry Smith, George A. Smith, Heber J. Grant and Itud-ger Itud-ger Clawson, are associated with him in the enterprise, en-terprise, and numerous others of prominence among the faithful are among the incorporators. The question is, whether the , company controlled con-trolled by the president of the twelve apostles is to hurl a challence at the company of which the president of the church is the guiding spirit, or whether the Idaho and .Utah companies are to foreswear competition and meet upon terms of amity. Or is it possible that there is division 'twixt members of the apostles' quorum on business busi-ness affairs? That Apostle Lyman is jealous of President Smith's control of electrical power projects in Utah, and has decided to flank his position posi-tion by invasion from a neighboring state? With the two star witnesses in the Smoot case locking horns in an industrial encounter, the future surely looks troublous. And meanwhile, with Smith the electrical king of Utah and Lyman bestriding Idaho's electrical resources, it looks as if Samuel Newhouse might have to go to the Danube for power for his proposed plant. iBK |
