Show Sen. Vatkins Telegraphs Decision On Echo Park Development for Damsite Editor F. A. Beckwith The Chronicle Delta, Utah Utilization of Echo Park and Split Mountain dam-sites dam-sites on Green River for development of the Central Utah Project Tuesday was approved by Secretary of Interior. Secretary Chapman's decision was first made public by Senator Arthur V. Watkins (R - Utah) whom the secretary called personally. "I am extremely happy over Mr. Chapman's decision de-cision I think his decision was fully justified", Sen. Watkins said. Secretary Chapman's action confirms his letter of June 20. In answer to a letter which I addressed to him on June 10th and in which I asked for an immediate ruling he replied that "I hope to be able in the near future to announce my decision with regard to this controversial issue." I am happy to note that his decision came seven days later. His action means that the Bureau of Reclamation can complete planning and report. It means Utah development of the Colorado River can proceed and it gives assurance that complete and ultimate developmnt of river system can be achieved. I shall do everything within my power to see to it that legislation authorizing project not only is introduced intro-duced next year but that' it is favorably considered by Congress. As member of senate committee on Inferior and Insular Affairs I believe I am in an excellent ex-cellent position to fight for favorable consideration f the authorizing legislation. Sen. Arthur. V.
