Their first hurdle was to learn to fall forward for-ward and float with face submerged. sub-merged. After that, learning to swim became easier. For many it was the first time they had ducked their faces in the pool, and all were beginners. Now they swim. Registration finally simmered down to 720 swim - learners, coming from all of west Millard. Mil-lard. ' Ages have ranged from 5 to 50 years, with many 15 years and up. The largest age group has been around 10 years old. Classes were given in community com-munity groups in hour-long sessions ses-sions each day of the course. Perry Leavitt, RC field director, is instructor, assisted by Bruce Osborne, life guard, and local able swimmers. i A Water Carnival will be staged sta-ged Friday night at 7 p. m. to exhibit water ability of the clas ses. Every one has learned to swim, some faster than others, ,' some braver than others. They haye learned to jump or dive j from the diving board and I swim to shallow water. Certifi- j cates will go to those complet- . 1 ing the course stating their ab- j ility to handle themselves in deep water. Now they are en- abled to go ahead and improve j their swimming technique. ! |
