Show D. Stevens & Co. Marks 33rd Year In Delta Store D. Stevens & Co., Delta's department depart-ment store, marks their 33rd year in business in Delta this week. The event is heralded with the annual an-nual annivesary sale at the store, and congratulations from members of the communities they serve. The firm entered the Delta business bus-iness world in 1917 with a branch of the parent store in Fillmore. W. J. Starey was manager, a post he still retains. The store was located in the Cooner Rlock. npar thp Hp- pot, and at one time also there were the Thornton Drug No. 6, the postoffice and the Consolidated Consolidat-ed Wagon and Machine Co. In 1924 a new building was e-rected e-rected on the present location on Clark Street, and the store was moved there. Several years later the furniture department was added ad-ded to the east. Founder The founder of the business was D. R. Stevens, who opened the original or-iginal store in Holden about 1885 Around the turn of the century he and his son, Daniel T. Stevens, bought out the Fillmore Co-op, and changed the name to D. Stevens Stev-ens & Co. Now, in addition to the Fillmore and Delta stores, D. Stevens Stev-ens & Co. has a store in Cedar City, opened in 1938. Fillmore operates two stores, under un-der management of LaVoy Kimball, Kim-ball, the department store and another an-other for hardware and implements. imple-ments. Leo Cahoon manages the Cedar City store. Past Employees Among the first employees at the Delta store were Spencer H. Wright, Eliza Hook, Lillias Hook, Christina Hook, Leila Stapley, Ada Underhill, Thenelda Black Mrs. Steve Vance. After the firm moved mov-ed to Clark Street they added Mary Gardner, Clayton Stapley, Warren Henderson, Erma Bishop, Del Searle, Lloyd Knight, Ned Church, Lemira Bishop, Van Bishop, Bish-op, Ray Boyack, Verna Shepherd, Wanda Beckwith, Janice Hopkins, Amy Smott, Donna Warnick, Reed Wood, Don and Arch Searle, Doyle Berry, and Seth Jackson.
