Show Bryce Canyon Plan Approved That the state land necessary for Bryce canyon to become a national park be trnsferred to the federal government on condition that the proposed pro-posed Carmel road to constructed with federal funds is the recommendation recommenda-tion of a report approved Thursday by tha board of governors of the chamber of commerce. The report is the work of a special committee consisting of James S. Taylor, chairman; John F. Fitzpat-rick. Fitzpat-rick. and Gus P. Backman. Besides the stipulation that the federal fed-eral government build the new road within two years' time, the report askes that the transfer also be made on condition that the land converted into a national park under the supervision su-pervision of the national park service and that concession privileges now operative be coincidently provided for upon terms and conditions of the national park service. The estimated cost of the Mount Carmel road is $1,200,000. The report says, "Such construction would be an exceedingly valuable addition to the beauties and facilities of scenic Utah." With regard to present leases and investments at Bryce, the report declares, de-clares, "No transfers should receive our support which do not give due regard to the equitable rights of those concerned. We are assured by Union Pacific representatives that these can be arranged with the national park service in an entirely satisfactory manner. "The only negative possibilities seen to be as to the concession privi-eges. privi-eges. It is the conclusion of your committee that the chances of those desiring such privileges would at no time be less favorable under national na-tional park supervision than is now" the case under the lease existing between be-tween the Union Pacific and the state of Utah." o |
