j RABBIT SKINS Jack rabbits are a major farming problem in many parts of South Dakota Da-kota and other western states. Operations for the control of these western rodent pests are being directed di-rected by the Biological Survey of the United State Department of Agri-: Agri-: culture. In South Dakota the work i is to be aided by the establishment i of a number of commercial stations for buying jack-rabbit skins in the western half of the state and by agreements during the coming winter with produce companies in the eastern east-ern section. The value of jack-rabbit jack-rabbit skins purchased in South Dakota Da-kota by one companf last winter was $80,000, which represents a consider-! consider-! able reduction in the pack-rabbit I population in this -.region. These ! skins are used mostly in the manufacture manu-facture of felt for hats, as they are not suitable for fur garments. The rise in price of the raw material has made it possible to utilize great : numbers of jack-rabbit skins that formerly were wasted.
