Show Writes Book On "Utah Mammals" The University of Utah has just issued a new bulletinn lister as "Utah Mammals," written by Claude T. Barnes, Salt Lake attorney and naturalist. This bulletin is a revision of a previous one by the author bearing bear-ing the same name. In it are 183 pages and thirty-two maps, also it is profusely illustrated with the animals ani-mals described. The author has given detailed descriptions of each animal, its most outstanding characterictics, its color, measurements and distribution. distribu-tion. Approximately 600 mammals have been catalgued in this fashion. The variety described ranges from the moose to the mouse and various bats. Among the rarer animals mentioned men-tioned are the black foxes, racoons, wingtail martins, wolverines, otters, and flying squirrels. All of the citations cita-tions on the animals discussed have been checked over by the specialists in their particular field in co-operation with the author. Mr. Barnes is a charter member of the American Society of Mammalo-gists Mammalo-gists and many other societies for the study of animals. His presenet work is written for the University of Utah at the request of President George Thomas and will be distributed by the University to educational institutions and authorities throughout the world. It is in line with the program of the University of Utah to acquaint the citizens of the state with the region in which they live. |
