Show AT THE ELEVENTH HOUR. It seems that the Democratic leaders of the senate, snurred by the president, no doubt, will make an effort to enact a law permitting the establishment by American commerce of joint foreign selling sell-ing agencies, Instead of accenting the Webb bill, passed by the house, the senate sen-ate interstate commerce committee has drafted a new measure in order that there may be no loophole by which those who engage in foreign trade may violate the antitrust laws' and ' ' articicially and unduly advance prices within the United States'' of the commodities exported. Under the terms of the senate bill the j federal trade commission is to investigate investi-gate cases of suspected domestic antitrust anti-trust law violations and report the facts to the attorney general in case an adjustment ad-justment is not effected. If the senate will only pass the bill the house will probably agree to it as soon as a vote can be taken, for the members of the lower chamber realize the urgency of the case. AU the financial and trade papers have earnest.'- advocated a measure meas-ure of this kind, and we believe a great majority of the people of the United States desire that our merchants and manufacturers be given a chance to transact business abroad on the" same footing with their foreign rivals, for the fact is apparent to all that our manufacturing manu-facturing industry has outgrown the home market. |
