Show EMIGRATION CANYON RESIDENTS TO PROTEST Abandonment of Railroad Will Work Hardship on Property Owners, Is Claim. Persons owning summer homes in Emigration Emi-gration canyon are aroused over the announced an-nounced intention of the Emigration Canyon Can-yon Railway company to abandon and dismantle the line. A meeting to formulate formu-late plans for preventing this act will be held at the office of T. F. Thomas. 213 Hooper building. Wednesday night at S o'clock. "I have been talking with many pfthose owning prcperty in the canyon," Mr. Thomas said last night. "All are agreed with me that it will be not merely an annoyance' to us, but a serious blow to the prestige of the city, if the railway company is permitted to carry out its plans. There are several hundred Salt Lake families owning homes up the canyon. can-yon. Those who have been depending upon the railway service to reach th r homes, and the hotel, at the head of tne canyon, which has depended largely upon the railway to bring it patronage, will suffer. Not only that, but if the word goes out that Salt Iake cannot maintain a summer suburb, it will be a decided stigma upon this city." As to just what ' measures can be taken Mr. Thomas was undecided. He said, however, tliat from the attitude displayed dis-played by those property owners with whom he bad talked, he believed that the fight would be a determined one. He invites in-vites all persons interested to attend the meeting, whether they have received personal per-sonal Invitations or not.--. |
