Show BULL FIGHTING BARRED President of the Humane Society Said I Would Be Stopped at the Worlds Fair Special to THE HERALD ExomlnerDlspatch CHICAGO Oct President John G Shortall of the Illinois Humane society announced today that there would be no bull fighting here during the Worlds fair i he can help it and he thinks he can Ho has just returned from paris wbere he visited vis-ited a socalled sham bull fight such as is projected on an extensive scale for Chicago entertainment next year He says the barbarous torment of the animal is but little mitigated by the fact that the coup de grace is not given and that other objections ob-jections to the degrading exhibition are not met and the fact that the horns of the animals are tipped in order to lessen the danger to the men Mr Shortall said Tao revival of bull fights in Paris was part of an effort to raise a fund for flood sufferers in the south of Spain Then it was retained by speculators who had influence in-fluence in the city In very much the same way bull fighting might become naturalized natu-ralized in America i it were allowed a foothold at the Worlds fair But we do not intend to allow it We shall arrest every one connected with it after the first performance animals on the charge of cruelty to |
