Show THE SHERWOOD CONCERTA CARD To the Editor of THE HERALD Permit me through your columns to set the public mind right regarding an impression Impres-sion created by the card of Mr C Y Tag gart in your issue of Wednesday morning The gentleman rushed into print to deny something of which he was never accused that is thathe tuned the Mason Ss Humlin piano for the concen on Monday evening Of course this reflection upon the musical Qualities of the instrument was intended more as an advertisement for himself and his qualities as a tuner than anything else and but for the rank injustice conveyed by implication would be permitted to paaa unnoticed un-noticed No one so far as I know or can learn questions his ability in the direction indicated and no one I am sure who knows the instrument spoken of ever questions its ability bo cause that speaks for itself and makes itself it-self happily understood The facts in the case are that the piano in transit here and on one other occasion was permitted to Tall to the ground sustaining severe shocks Prof Sherwood for a time refused to use It at all but as it was the one tho company was accustomed to he Vas prevailed upon at the last moment to do the best ho could with it and surely Mr Taggart or anyone else could have done no better and his reflections re-flections upon the instrument the tuner were greatly out of place I will state for his and the publics information that the piano referred to is the same that was used in twentyfour consecutive concerts and made a continuous journey of over three thousand miles without having to be tuned ut all No stronger endorsement of the Mason Hamlin new style of piano stringing could be given or required than this fact alone Accidents will happen in the best regulated regu-lated companies and when happening should not form the basis of uncalledfor selflaudation Respectfully D B DOBRANICH Piano Tuner |
