Show AT SPBlNaVILLE Schroeder and Vest Discuss the Situation A Lnrze and Enthusiastic Jlcetins of Demucnus of the lbr Southern South-ern City On Thursday A T Schroeder and ex Governor West addressed the Democrats of Springville There was a very large audience and the speakers were enthusiastically enthusi-astically received Mr Schroeder made his master effort dealing mainly with the tariff and the sugar bounty and there is no doubt but he made a lasting impression upon his hearers ExGovernor West said Your chairman chair-man by his introduction has so embarrassed embar-rassed inoil scarcely know what to say to this large and intelligent audience especially espec-ially to that portion of it that he has so commended me I assure you I you wore to allow me to talk to you one by one with not such a large audience that my subject might be greater I might be able to say something so I assure you I can only feel without expressing i I can however say that I always feel comfortable and agreeable agree-able in the presence of ladies God bless their sweet souls they are tbe sunshine of the world they make the world and all that is good and beautIful He referred to I former occasion about two years ago when speaking to the people I of Springvlllo he as a supporter of the Liberal cause referred to the strife bitterness bitter-ness and animosities of the two political parties as then existing He spoke of the manifesto which was issued to the world the acceptance of the Mormon people of that manifesto and said You are now upon the thresnhold or the groat national question You from that time up t now have been investigating and seeking to do termlne where you shall place yourselves what party you abatE follow which party is the party of freedom and good government govern-ment which will effect your economic necessities I claim hero tonight i the great National Democratic party I has said to the people of Utah who have given their solemn vow You have given this pledge we believe in your sincerity sin-cerity in your truth we accept your pledges and take you by the right hand of fellowship While on the contrary tbe Republican party said to the people of Utah We discredit your pledges and promises we have no faith or credence in them further than to Day we will give you tho benefit after having made all these solemn declarations in the years to come They propose to keep you in probation they do not tell you what you will have to do to prove your sincerity they throwback throw-back upon you those declarations of your faith of your purposes and they dont believe be-lieve them The speaker referred to the action of the National convention of the Republicans at Minneapolis in giving onehalf of a seat to the Republican party of Utah and ono half a seat to the LiberalRepublicans and contracted con-tracted the action and conduct of the National Na-tional Democratic party at Chicago last June giving the Democratic delegates full aCknowledgement seats in tbe convention conven-tion and said to the wild Tuscaroras We I have no half seat for you I Speaking of the bill for statehood he charged lackof good faith in the Republican can party in its introduction that it was a measure to kill tho Home Rule bill for Utah and said the Democratic party favored favor-ed statehood and until statehood can be I had asked for Home Rule Speaking of tho petition for amnesty signed by the loaders of the Mormon church and many leading Gentiles both Democratic Republican t he charged again lack of faith in the solemn I pledges of the people of Utah by a Republican Repub-lican president and Republican party in that no action other than distrust and unkindly un-kindly delay is plainly manifest i I conclusion the speaker desired all that had not allied with either of the two great parties to join that party which had always I shown itself to be the friend of the people of Utah The speaker was many times and loudly applaude during his speech |
