Show I BEST YKT HELD I I Hon John T Caine and Wuldemar Van Cott in JTanii On Friday evening a grand Democratic rally was held fit Manti in honor of John T Caine and Waldemar Van Cott The gentlemen named had been through Sevier county and on their way north arranged to speak here A grand torchlight prosesaion was arranged ar-ranged and the gentlemen preceded by Dr Christen of Epbraim as first torch bearer and leader were followed by many of the leading citizens of Manti To the lovely strains of the silver band the procession ists formed early in the evening and marched to the hall which was already half filled In five minutes there was only standing room The band then played one of their best selections after which Mr William K Reid called the meeting to order and introduced Mr Van Cott as tho first speaker At this juncture Mr Came through the chair announced that to accommodate ac-commodate the large number who could not gain admittance he would address an overflow over-flow meeting outside The honorable honor-able gentleman then left the hall for that purpose those outside adjourning to the grounds of the Beach hotel For an hour and a half Mr Van Cott clearly and fluently explained his views on the issues of the day The frequent bursts or applause be received testifying that he was speaking to an appreciative audience After him Mr Caine who bad now returned re-turned after addressing those outside occupied oc-cupied the rest of the evening till after U oclock Leaving statistics the honorable gentleman gentle-man confined himself to refuting the as sertions made by Republicans that the Democratio party were antagonistic in their legislation to the majority of tao people peo-ple of this territory The sketches which he gave of congressional doings at Washington Wash-ington with his character sketches of individual In-dividual politicians were highly relished by those who had the good fortune to hear himFor For another hour and a half the well packed house listened with keen and rapt attention to the speaker who at the close was accorded long round of applause At tho close the speakers were accorded a hearty and unanimous vote of thanks There is to be a rally Ephraim tonight when the same speakers will address the good people of that city Mr Caine also speaks of a return visit to Sanpete to give addresses in those towns He will be unable to visit on the present occasion oc-casion This was one of the best if not indeed the very best political meetings ever held in Manti MANn Oct 1 1892 |
