Anderson, wrote the show while studying for his masters degree at BYU, and he does an excellent job of giving an inside view of Rockwell. The show will play later this month at the Scera in Orem and will best be appreciated by those somewhat familiar with early LDS church history. A boyhood friend of Joseph Smith, Rockwell was rumored to have killed more than 400 men. Rockwell reportedly claimed credit for only half that many. Rockwell was accused, tried and acquitted of the attempted assassi-nation of Governor Boggs of Mis-souri. Joseph Smith said, "If Porter had taken the shot, he wouldn't have missed." After the Mormons came to Utah, Rockwell spent considerable ' time in and around Lehi and added to his reputation by tracking down rustlers and shooting a variety of gunmen bent on sending Rockwell to his eternal reward. Speaking of that reward, Presi-dent Joseph F. Smith said, "Porter has gone to the Celestial Kingdom." Anderson's costume, voice and on stage presence make this show an enjoyable nights entertainment plus it gives the viewer some new insights into early church history. |
