Interestingly, motion sickness in children is related to age. Children age 2 to 12 years old are often affected. while infants may not be affected at all. The U.S. Food and Drug Ad-ministration recently indicated that four medicines, all classified as antihistamines, are siHie and effective in treating the nausea, vomiting and dizziness associated with motion sickness. These four ingredients, cyclizine hydrochloride, diphenhydramine hydrochloride, dimenhydrinate hydrochloride and meclizine hydrochloride, are commonly found in nonprescription motion ' sickness medicines. Because all four are antihistamines, products containing them usually carrying warnings that they may cause drowsiness, that alcohol should be avoided, and that caution should be used when driving or operating machines w'hile using motion sickness j medicines. Dimenhydrinate should not be given to children under two years of age. Diphenhydramine should not be used in children under age six. Read all product labels carefully before using.
