Show Parades, rodeo, rides and plenty of berries ready for annual fun Pleasant Grove's first big summer sum-mer bash, Strawberry Days, begins today with the Children's Parade at 6 p.m. and the Horse Pulling Contest at 7:30 p.m. Children, dressed in costume keeping with the "Circus" theme, should meet at the designated starting place for each LDS stake along the parade route. The parade will begin at the corner of 200 S. 100 East and travel north to Center St., then west to Main St. and south to 300 South, east to 100 East and back north to where each unit joined the parade. The Horse Pulling Contest will be held in the Rodeo Arena and will feature some of the best draft horse teams in the western United States. If you have not ever attended at-tended this event, you are encouraged encour-aged to do so. Get there early, it attracts a big crowd. The mammoth parades will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. The parades follow a route from Main and Center Streets to 300 S., east to 100 East, north to 200 South and then east to Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove High School. The evening parade travels in reverse order. The Strawberry Days royalty, Queen Jeni Smith, Vallerie Peterson, Peter-son, and Andrea Holdaway will lead off the parade. Other events during the day will include the DUP Pioneer Museum and Log Cabin tours and bake sale beginning at 9:30 a.m., Flower Show and Arts and Crafts Show in the Community Center and Recreation Recrea-tion Buildingfrom 11 a.m.to8p.m., and kiddie games at the Community Commu-nity Center at 1 p.m. At 8 p.m. will be the PRCARodeo produced by Swanee Kirby in the Rodeo Arena. This night will be family night and children are admitted free with a paying adult. Preceding the rodeo each night will be performances by Cloggers West of Pleasant Grove High School. Therodeo will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday, beginning at 8 p.m. each night. The Strawberry Days Rodeo Royalty will reign over this event. The royalty includes Queen Kandi Kennedy, Lori Jo Evans and Carol Christensen. National All-Around Cowbcy for the third straight year, Lewis Feild, is expected to ride in the rodeo. In addition, the hilarious wild cow milking contest will be held, featuring local cowboys. On Friday, there will be several events held at the Community Center, including a greased pole climb at 1 p.m., pie eating contest at 6 p.m., and lip sync contest at 6:30 p.m. The favorite musical, "Kiss Me Kate," will begin its run on Friday at 8 p.m. at Pleasant Grove High School. This enjoyable show is being presented by the Pleasant Grove Players and features an excellent ex-cellent cast performing some of Cole Porter's best music. The play will be presented June 17, 18, 20, 24, 25, and 27. Plan to attend. On Saturday the annual road race will be held at 8 a.m. beginning at the Community Center. The adult doubles tennis tournament tour-nament will begin with the men at Pleasant Grove Junior High School at 7 a.m. and the women at Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove High School at 8 a.m. The Strawberry Days Invitational Invita-tional Swimming Meet will be held at the Pleasant Grove Pool at 9 a.m. The Horse Shoe Pitching tournament tour-nament will be held in the Downtown Down-town City Park at 10 a.m. The rodeo and "Kiss Me Kate" will be seen again at 8 p.m. The City of Fun Carnival will be - in Pleasant Grove in the Down-, Down-, town Park all four days of the celebration. cele-bration. Strawberries and Cream will be served in the park all four days and each night at the rodeo arena. Everyone is invited to participate partici-pate in as many activities as possible. |
