We hope you will all use it jfen ' Activities were under the direc-bn direc-bn of the library board. I Construction of the facility be-pn be-pn in July of 1987, officials said, with the cost coming in under budget. Funding was raised through the city's Capitol Improvement fund and donations. "This buildingis completely paid for," Holdaway said, pointing out that no taxes were increased to pay for the structure. "We didn't want to mortgage our future to pay for it." The upper floor of the building contains the library, with the Senior Sen-ior Citizen Center and a large meeting room located on the lower, street level, floor. The library has study and reading read-ing areas, work rooms for the staff, a copy machine, and a multitude of book shelves. Pleasant Grove City Council meetings will be held in the large meeting room in the lower level. Historical photographs which had been placed on display in the building, along with pictures of individuals to whom memorial donations were made, attracted a lot of attention Monday night. The approximately 20,000 books on the library shelves were moved from the old library to the new about two weeks ago as a service , and Eagle Scout project. Boy and Girl Scouts, Pleasant Grove Kiwanis Club members, students from the Pleasant Grove High School Key Club, and other volunteers who "just dropped in," made the move easy, according to Lloyd Ash, Pleasant Grove City Councilman over the library. Brett Thacker coordinated the move as his Eagle Scout project with Kiwanis Club members assisting as-sisting where needed and supervising supervis-ing the overall project. Kiwanis Club members also plan to aid with this project by sponsoring the five-ring Carson & . Barnes Circus on July 15. Proceeds from performances given "under the big top" will go to the library. Library patrons have been using us-ing the new library over the past few weeks, even though it hasn't been officially opened. Jean Gif-ford Gif-ford is librarian. |
