Show Fred Hopt's Respite. The Supreme Court to-day ordered that, there having appeared sufficient evidence showing that a writ of error in the case of Frederick Hopt had been legally drawn up and served, execution execu-tion be stayed until further instructions from the Court. This is simply affording Hopt another opportunity for a rehearing in the Supreme Court of the United States, as is evidenced by the action of his attorney, P. L. Williams. Esq. Those who have been anxiously watching the progress of these tedious rehearings will receive this news with a great deal of impatience and disgust. There is little doubt, however, that the end -is not far distant, as every possible precaution .has been taken to avoid further proceedings, and the writ of error is the final spasmodic action to be taken for the convict, and it in itself is comparatively hopeless. |
