Show V THE CITI SOLOES. The Usual Batch of Petitions, Re. j ports and Appropriations. At the usual hour last night the City Council convened in regular session, Mayor Sharp presiding. Swen Anderson presented 'a list of fifty-eight dealers who generally have their hay weighed at the city scales on the Eighth Ward Square, stating that Miss Millie Shelmerdine had proven herself her-self competent as Weighmaster and recommended rec-ommended that the young lady be appointed ap-pointed to the position left vacant by the death of her father. Referred to the Election Committee. Oreorge Mattison asked to be released from the lease of 680 square rods of land southeast of the artesian well, as his contract con-tract did not mature until 1890 and chicken farming had proven unsuccessful. unsuccess-ful. Granted. Frank Foote and J. C. Conklin & Co.. owners of the Salt Lake and Utali Sampling Works respectively, thought their annual licenses of $100 each excessive, exces-sive, and asked for a reduction. Referred Re-ferred to the proper committee. Hyrunv Groesbeck, administrator of the estate of Nicholas Groesbeck, stated that theWasatcn block had formerly been assessed at $75,000. At the ,begin-ning ,begin-ning of this year the county had assessed the property at $85,000, but on appearing before the Equalization Board the amount of valuation was reduced to $75,000, as formerly. The city failed to comply and rated the property at $85,000, which he asked to have reduced $10,000 in conformity conform-ity with the rating of the county. Referred Re-ferred to the Claim Committee. Eber Case asked for such rebate on his $300 liquor license for running a stand at the Hot Springs as was deemed right, as the place is more of an accommodation to travelers than a source of profit. Referred Re-ferred to the Committee on License. J. Alt, H. Wagener, J.E.Duffy and Ed. C. Clifford were granted retail liquor licenses. The Water Master reported the following follow-ing expenditures for the quarter ending November 30th: On Jordan and Salt Lake City Canal, $114.84 ; Liberty Park, $411.75 ; in the Water Master's department depart-ment in this city, $895.15. Referred to the various committees. The Street Supervisor presented a statement state-ment of road and street expenditures for the last quarter to the amount of $4,243.49. Referred to the committee. William Shelmerdine, late keeper of the Estray Pound, submitted a net income in-come of $64 for the past six months from animals impounded. James Reed was granted a free peddlers' ped-dlers' license for onn vear. Williams & Young presented a bill for $250 for services in the Vandercook case, which was allowed. The Street Supervisor's contingent fund was increased by $1,000. Five huridred.dollars was appropriated to the Liberty Park contingent fund, and the same amount was allowed the Water-master.
