Show The National Guard Convention. Washington, December 16. In the Fourth Annual Convention of the National Guard yesterday afternoon, General Hartranf t, of Pennsylvania, counseled cautious action, so as not to arouse opposition. He said that if Congress would give the desired $ 000,000 for arms and ordnance stores, they would ask for nothing more. He moved that a committee com-mittee be appointed to prepare a bill similar to the one passed in the Senate, appropriating appropri-ating this money. The motion was adopted and a committee appointed as follows: General Snowden of Pennsylvania, General Campbell of Kansas, General Ordway and General Hartranf t of Pennsylvania, General Jones of North Carolina, Colonel Castleman of Kentucky and General Farley of Ohio. The following officers were elected: General Gen-eral George W. Wingate, of New York, President ; Adjutant-General Johnstone Jones, of North Carolina, First Vice-President; Adjutant-General A. B. Campbell, of Kansas, Second Vice-President; Colonel Charles E. Bridge, of New York, Correspond-ng Correspond-ng Secretary; Adjutant-General Will L. Alexander, of Iowa, Recording Secretary; General Bonnell, of Nebraska, Treasurer. -The following Executive Committee for the ensuing year was appointed: For the New England States General Elijah H. Rhodes, Providence, R. I.; Middle States-Major States-Major Andrew D. Hepburn, Philadelphia, Pa.; Southern States General D.H. Mowry, Louisiana; Western States Colonel James M. Rice, Peoria, 111.; Pacific States Colonel Horace D. Ranlett, San Francisco, Cal. An invitation from the President to call on him to-day was received and accepted, and the convention adjourned. |
