Show Caponigro's Photos on Display at By Amanda Nielson Entertainment Editor Ancient mystery and secrets of lost empires are all apart of the celebration of the anniversary of Thirty of Paul Caponigro famous painting of ancient structures structures structures tures will he on exhibit at the Markosian Library through Oct Get 14 Among the photos are some of Stonehenge a structure that for many of thousands of years no one has known how they came to he be This magnificent structure was once thought to have been heen a work of the wizard wi Merlin of King Arthurs Arthur's Court Now scientists believe these stones arc are almost years ago long before the time of King Arthurs Arthur's Court In fact they believe it was made toward the end of the Stone Age The arrangement of these stones is what is so remarkable They are harder than granite and yet they were carved to lit fit er Another amazing ama thing is that the ground on which it stands is on ona a hill but hut the horizontal hori stones arc are almost perfectly level These ancient stones have been heen Caponigro's life for over 30 years 6 r. r 1 J 7 I Q l FI V Y N f l Photo Photo by Paul Caponigro photos are on display Markosian Libary through October 14 He began hegan taking photos in the mid did not start on this project until 1966 after alter he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship to photograph these ancient monuments Stonehenge is not the only structure in this exhibit There are some from New Grange in Ireland and in Brittany He has helped by way of loaning 12 of his original prints to Professor Terry Martin to help his III class understand I line fine ne photography Hes absolutely wonderful wonder wonder- ful to talk to and very generous with his time and talent Martin said On September 11 II there will be bea a free reception and gallery talk at 7 pm p.m. in Markosian Library Tillman Crane a well-known well photographer and was an assistant to Caponigro will also speak If you enjoy ancient artifacts or would like to know more you would enjoy this reception |
