Show Allergy sufferers battle unseen enemies For some of ub, allergies mean coping with the sniffles a few months each year. But for others, allergy symptoms are devastating: facial swelling, a running nose and eyes, and fluid behind the eardrums ear-drums often resulting in a loss of hearing. Experts say at least 14 out of every 100 Americans suffer from one or more known allergies. And, most of these allergies aren't seasonal they're caused by year-round year-round pollutants in the air. Unseen enemies hiding on bookshelves, drapes, rugs and even in the air, play havoc on allergy sufferers. Dust, pollens, molds and spores are often the culprits. Even if you've never had an allergy before, you can develop one at any time. Children and older adults are most susceptible. Everytime you open a window or door, bothersome particles enter your home. Vacuuming and dusting eliminate only a small portion of air pollutants. To further eliminate the problem you need to install an air cleaning system in your home. A full-size air cleaner attached to your heating system will purify the air throughout your entire home. There are basically two types of air cleaners available: electronic and non-electronic models. Electronic air cleaners operate on the principle of a magnet. Dust particles, pollens and other pollutants pass through the device and receive an electrical charge adhering them to thin magnetized strips of metal. A non-electric air cleaner has a unique filter similar to those used for years in hospital and laboratory clean rooms where the level of air borne particles must be kept near zero. Some non-electronic models have up to 78 square feet of filtering surface trapping trap-ping even microscopic particles passing through them. |
