Students dance in capitol Third grade students from Boulton Boul-ton Elementary performed at the State Capitol on April 19 as part of the Kickoff Celebration for the Week of the Arts at the invitation of the State Board of Education. Under the direction of Salvador Reyes, Artist in Residence at Boulton Boul-ton from April 14-25, students performed per-formed two Mexicaji folkdances wearing colorful costumes that were designed and sewn by Mr. Reyes. ENTHUSIASM has been high as students and teachers have worked with Mr. Reyes learning Mexican folkdances and Spanish songs. At the culmination of Mr. Reyes' residence, resi-dence, students performed the songs and dnnces they had learned for each other. Mr. Reyes also per formed dancing traditional Aztec dances. He also sang Mexican songs for the children. Reyes is from Acapulco, Mexico where he performs during the summer sum-mer with the Quetzalcoatl Ballet. He has danced for the past 22 years. Having worked for the Utah Arts Council for the last five years, he travels and teaches students throughout Utah. |
