Show Doc' to play at WSC - C zsl I OGDEN -- Trumpeter Doc Severinsen and his own five-member five-member fusion band will join We-ber We-ber State College performing groups June 7 as the students present pre-sent their top awards during the annual "Crystal Crest" awards ceremony. THE EVENT is a year-end program prog-ram honoring outstanding students, stu-dents, faculty, staff and alumni at the college in II categories. The black-tie affair gets underway at 7:30 p.m. in the Austad Auditorium of the Browning Center for the Performing Per-forming Arts and includes Severinsen, Severin-sen, campus performing groups, master of ceremonies Spencer Kinard of KSL Television and a myriad of state and local dignitaries dignitar-ies acting as award presenters. The academy award-type presentation pre-sentation recognizes top students in such categories as "Man" and "Woman of the Year," "Talent of the Year," "Personality of the Year," "Master Teacher," "Friend of Students" and others. THE EVENT is sponsored by the Associated Students of Weber State and goes beyond a simple awards night, organizers said. "The nrocram is all in a rplhru. "The Tonight Show" since 1967. He was voted "Top Brass" ten times in Playboy's annual music poll. AS A night-club star Severinsen headlines Las Vegas and Atlantic City several weeks each year. Most weekends he performs as a guest soloist with symphonies, or performs in small clubs or on college col-lege campuses with his band. He is the resident conductor of the Phoenix Pops. Severinsen won the Music Educators' Edu-cators' national contest when he was 12 years old, and, while still in high school, was hired to tour with the Ted Fio Rito Orchestra. APPEARING also at WSC with Severinsen will be Tom Rizzo, guitar; Rich Eames, keyboards; Jeff D'Angelo, bass; and Ron Davis, drums. Tickets for the event are $3.50 for general admission, which includes in-cludes admission to the formal dance following, or $5.50 for reserved re-served seats. TICKETS are available at all Datatix outlets or at the ASWSC offices at 626-6349. DOC SEVERINSEN finalists in each of the 1 1 categories and from those finalists winners will be selected.
