Show Local bands perform at USU LOGAN Students in the Bountiful, Viewmont and Woods Cross High School bands recently took part in the 1 986 Utah State University Band Festival in Logan. The event is sponsored spon-sored by the department of music at USU. TWENTY-FOUR high school bands participated in the two-day two-day event, according to Dennis Griffin, who coordinated the festival. Bands competed for honors in three divisions, set up according to school population. Adjudicators for the competition were Wayne Bailey of the University of Colorado and Mike Samball of Boise State University. FIRST PLACE in the Division III category was awarded to the Bountiful High School band, directed by David Hunt. The American Fork High School band, under the direction of Don Peterson, took 2nd place honors. The Viewmont High School band is directed by Mike Murphy and program selections during the competition included "Pre-lude "Pre-lude and Fugue in B Minor," "Symphonic Dance No. 3" and Variants on Medieval Tune." STEPHEN Richins directs the Woods Cross band. The band's program selections included "Italian Polka," "Prelude No. 4" and "Barn Dance and Cowboy Hymn." |
