Show Supports cheerleading At a recent meeting of the Davis County School Board, one of the members of the board, Ray Briscoe, stated he wanted to eliminate cheerleading and drill team from high school curriculum curricu-lum because of the "elitism!" AS A former cheerleader, drill team member and Junior Miss Drill Team Utah, I feel something needs to be said about this. Drill team and cheerleading is the best activity a person can get into. It isn't an "elite" group. It is a group of people that are dedicated enough to practice, work hard and put forth the effort to build a great team. Anyone can be on the drill team or a cheerleader. Along with the hard work comes winning awards, fun times with friends, meeting new people, and; best of all, staying in shape. TO TAKE away drill and cheerleading would be like taking away football and basketball. I hope Mr. Briscoe will consider this when he talks about this issue again. Tiffany Peasley |
